If you have experienced (are you experienced?) southern California's The Has Bins, then you know the true value of this toy saxophone. Or, should we say, the "Saxofaux" as the Has Bins call it. The perfect addition to jazzy ballads, rhythm and blues, and plain old good time rock and roll!

 "great for the price." 2009-01-11
By Missouri Mom
This is not anywhere close to a real instrument, but kids love it. My nephew got this for christmas and it much easier to play than the trumpet version of this toy, but the boys were parading around the house tooting in no time. They marched for hours and still play with them regularly weeks later. They fight over the saxaphone though, it is easier for them to blow on and use the buttons. I would buy this item again. And maybe try the clarinet next time.

"Very disappointed - broke right away" 2008-12-26
By A. Smith
I, too, thought I had done my homework so I was extremely disappointed when I took this sax out of the box for my son and discovered how cheaply made this toy is. It is an extremely light-weight and flimsy plastic that feels like it could "snap" if you held it too hard. The mouth piece broke the second time he picked it up to play with it. This will end up in the trash tomorrow and I would never buy another Bontempi instrument nor would I recommend one to anyone.

 "toy trumpet" 2009-02-23
By A. Jones
I was disapointed to find that the trumpet had 4 keys, since a real trumpet only has 3. I understand that they need the 4th key to be able to play the song, but educationally, you're confusing the kids when they see a real trumpet.

"Does not teach real music" 2009-01-19
By Karyn Graves
My 3 year old could play my husbands trumpet using the proper lip technique, but it was too heavy. So, we bought him this one. It's nice and light, but not at all like a real instrument. All you do is blow and you have to have a key pressed to make a note, so you are limited to 4 notes. Very disappointing and not educational.

 "A little disappointed." 2009-01-11
By Missouri Mom
I was a little disappointed at first. I thought it was broke because it wouldn't play, but you have to have your fingers on the buttons to play the notes. It was a little hard to explain to a 2 year old, but in no time he figured it out and enjoyed it for hours. I also bought a saxaphone for my other nephew and it will get a better review. Overall my nephew enjoyed it, I was expecting a little better quality though.

"It's just OK. A bit boring though" 2009-12-08
By A. Minerly
I gave these to my 17 month twin boys a few days ago. There's a battery operated maraca and one that just rattles with no lights or other sounds. They were not originally interested at all in the maraca that just rattles. They also took a little while to warm up to the one that is battery operated. Eventually, they both have taken a liking to it. It's not their favorite toy but one they will probably grow in to. Today, one of my twins was dancing and shaking both maracas, so I think we have his seal of approval for this toy. My other twin still only likes the battery operated one. They both enjoy switching from one mode to the next. They also have tossed these toys everywhere in the house and so far no damage. I'd say these are very durable. They having tossed them down the stairs or on to the first floor hardwood floors like their other toys eventually go yet, but otherwise, they do see to hold up well to the abuse they've already endured.

I didn't give it a higher rating mostly because there's not a lot of variety to the music. The numbers only go up to 10 and 6 colors in both English and Spanish. The music one just loops over and over again. Already, I think I'm going to go crazy if I hear that thing again. As long as they are enjoying the toy, I'll put up with it, but I would have preferred to have a toy with more musical choices at least. For now, the boys don't seem to care about the lack of options. They do like to shake them and change the settings themselves, and their enjoyment is what makes the toy worth hanging on to.

"Great Value and Provides Distraction Type Fun. "Shake it Up"" 2009-10-05
By Citizen John (Washington, DC)
These Counting Maracas are worth it but the musical one is truly fun and has a great beat. The female voice says "shake it up." My twin 9 month-olds play with them here and there except when I roll them around the house with the music one. You can try this activity I describle below.

The one that lights up and has sounds is fun, especially in the dark. They liked it right away. Our biggest game with that one is where I roll them around the house in an umbrella stroller in the dark or near-dark while they get to hold the musical maracas. They love that. And it's not boring because there are 3 different tunes and with different verbal themes (colors, numbers and a "shake it up" one). This maracas has a lot of great sound effects too and you can also select English or Spanish and choose between 2 volume levels. We use all the options. My twin babies feel important holding onto it while taking a ride around the house, one at a time.

The one that one just shakes and makes rattle noises is better than expected although still a little big for their 9-month old hands. They shake that one, not the musical one since that one doesn't rattle. It's a welcome addition to their toy collection but by far the best one is the musical maracas. The musical maracas didn't have to be shaped like a maracas because it's not for shaking.

One potential issue: The batteries for this one are very tiny. I'm going to have to replace mine any day now and I'm not certain it will be easy to find this type of battery.

This toy is very loud and not very interactive. We got this with the guitar and he has played with it almost every day since he got it more than a year ago. The maracas sit in the toy basket. They are so loud they used to scare him and he is not afraid of anything.

"Do You Need A New Book End?" 2009-12-23
By Kat May (Where it is Cold & Snowy)
This is horrible. After spending most of my life studying music I am sad to say that this will ruin any child's ear for music if they have one. I thought it was just ours that always sounds out of tune and like a dying cow, but it isn't. The movie preview isn't much better than the one in our home. It has a bit more rhythm.

After having this toy for over a year I am ready to throw it away if it weren't such a great book end. It is somewhat heavy and has rubber stoppers great for your child's book shelf.

Feel free to replace and buy new batteries the results will always be the same. The directions state that if that happens you should turn it off wait a few seconds and turn it back on again. This never once fixed the problem. Since this problem is noted in the instruction manual the company won't do anything about it unless you are the original purchaser with the receipt. Ours was a gift.

Good luck with this toy. I have moved on to find ones worth my time that won't disable my child's musical talent.

 "Too Loud" 2009-12-12
By O. Chan (New York, NY)
I like the toy and my baby loves the music, but as an adult, I feel the music is way too loud for me, so it has to be too loud for my baby. I wish there was some kind of volume control on it since my baby would need to hold it closer to him to play with it.

For now, we turn it on from a distance and the baby likes staring at the bright colors and listening to the music.

 "for music lovers!" 2009-12-17
By Ariane Ramirez (Texas United States)
When my son's first birthday came up, I knew I wanted to get him a Baby Einstein Takealong Tunes because I had seen how much his cousin loved hers and because I wanted to expose my child to music at an early age. The music featured comes from some of the most well known composers ever. We call it his "radio"/"baby iPod" and it's one of his favorite toys. It's easy for him to turn on and off, easy to carry around, he loves the lights, and he loves to have the music playing in the background when he's playing with other toys. If your child is a bit rough or likes to randomly drop things repeatedly things, it's also VERY durable and has survived being slammed, thrown and stepped on. After four months, the batteries are still going strong which is good. Like other reviewers have said, the volume is not loud or annoying (for when you're in a public place like a doctor's office where it really comes in handy).

We jokingly call this our son's "Baby iPod". Nicholas is 10 months old and has had this for about 4 months. He likes to watch the lights and the button is easy for him to press. He also likes to chew on the handle! The toy is very portable -- easy to clip onto linking rings to keep it from getting lost. The sound is good quality and the songs are upbeat and fun. It's a great buy for the price.

I ordered this drum set for my 4 yr. old son. I picked it because it was higher priced and therefore I thought it would be higher quality. I was wrong! It was awful and I was completely disappointed. We never even put it together the quality was that cheap. Cardboard and hard plastic. It was so tiny that it would have worked for a one year old but not a 4 year old.
